About Us
REELway is a digital magazine focused on Canada’s film and television industry, created to spotlight the people who make screen content: writers, directors, producers, and creators. In Canada, making film and television involves navigating a complex system of funding organizations, broadcasters, and public institutions. For many creatives, understanding how this system works and how to access opportunities within it is a major challenge. REELway exists to close that gap by making the industry more visible, understandable, and accessible. By focusing on creators, their projects, and how they move ideas from concept to screen, REELway provides a platform for discovery and connection. REELway helps bring attention to talent based on skill, originality, and impact. For sponsors and partners, REELway offers direct access to Canada’s creative community alongside the organizations that support it, helping strengthen the country’s screen culture and the industry that sustains it.

THE STORY BEHIND
For 17 years, I ran a magazine with my father and my sister Armin S. called Bollywood Film Fame Canada. It started as a family business and quickly became something much bigger. Armin was our Editor-in-Chief, Shwayta Sharma was one of our lead staff writers, and together we built a print and digital magazine that reached readers across North America.
We covered red carpets. We interviewed some of the biggest names in Bollywood. We asked uncomfortable questions when the industry needed to be challenged. And most importantly, we built a loyal community. Families subscribed. Young artists felt seen. Industry professionals respected the work. It wasn’t just a magazine, it was a voice.
After nearly two decades, life shifted. I moved deeper into filmmaking through my production company, Fly Away Films Inc. Armin and Shwayta continued creating alongside me. We made award-winning films. We produced stories that mattered. We grew, not just professionally, but personally too. In between shoots, deadlines, and festivals, we were also raising kids, sharing meals, and navigating life together. Our collaboration never really ended, it just evolved.
Then in 2025, while attending the Toronto International Film Festival as a filmmaker, something unexpected happened. While in a casual conversation with a Canadian television host, he told me his family had been dedicated readers of our magazine. He spoke about how much it meant to them. That conversation stayed with me.
It made me realize something: Canada’s screen industry has extraordinary talent - creators, crew members, craftspeople, but we don’t consistently spotlight the people who shape the stories we love. There’s a gap between creatives and funders.
Between recognition and opportunity. Between talent and visibility.
And I knew a magazine could help bridge that gap.
That was the spark behind Reelway.
Now, Armin, Shwayta, and I are coming together again, this time with even more experience, deeper industry knowledge, and a clearer purpose. We’re filmmakers ourselves. We understand the hustle, the funding challenges, the creative risks, the emotional investment. We know what it feels like to want your work to be seen, and respected.
REELway is our way of giving back to the industry that shaped us. It’s built on everything we learned over 17 years, about journalism, integrity, storytelling, and community, but it’s focused squarely on Canada’s screen-based industry.
And just like before, it’s built on collaboration, friendship, and family. We hope our collaboration can build visibility, connection and industry literacy. We look forward to working with you in this exciting endeavour.
With Gratitude,
